  1. Glenn is His Middle Name. Glenn Miller’s full name was Alton Glenn Miller, however he disliked his first name and chose to be addressed by his middle name Glenn, which became associated with his greatest achievements. 
  2. The Trombone Is Not His First Instrument. Although Miller entered history as a talented trombonist, he initially played the mandolin and only switched to the trombone during his teenage years.
  3. Early Struggles in Music. For many months, Miller was searching for ways to make his band’s sound unique and distinguished by experimenting with various combinations. He also worked as a freelance trombonist before establishing his successful band, the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1937.
  4. The "Miller Sound". When speaking about Glenn Miller it’s impossible not to mention his recognizable sound achieved by using a clarinet playing the melody, supported by a tenor saxophone, with the other saxophones harmonizing around them.
  5. A Friend of the King of Swing. Miller was a contemporary of Benny Goodman, whom he met in Pollack's band. People sometimes called them rivals in the context of their musical careers, but they had warm relationships with each other.
  6. Hit Maker. Miller and his orchestra created many songs that became hits and reached high positions on charts. Songs like "In the Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," and "Tuxedo Junction" became timeless classics.
  7. Music and Military Service. During World War II, Miller started to serve in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He even founded his new band, called the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. 
  8. Mysterious Disappearance. Miller’s life was cut short under mysterious circumstances on December 15, 1944, when he disappeared while flying over the English Channel. Despite many efforts, the aircraft and Miller’s remains haven’t been found.
  9. Legacy and Recognition. Despite the lack of details regarding his death, his legacy as a musician is celebrated even to this day. His music continues to be played worldwide by various bands, including his Orchestra.
