1923
Born on September 24 in Key West, Florida, into the family of musicians of Cuban descent, who shaped his attraction to music from an early age.
1930s
Fats Navarro started his musical journey with the piano but soon switched to the trumpet, which became his main instrument. During his teenage years, Fats Navarro performed with several local music groups.
1941
Fats Navarro moved to New York, where his career reached new heights. During this time, he collaborated with famous musicians Andy Kirk and Billy Eckstine.
1940s
Established himself as an important figure in the development of bebop. He worked together with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Bud Powell. Navarro’s performance was complex with a fresh approach to improvisations.
1946-1948
This period is the peak of his achievements, with a series of collaborations with Tadd Dameron and other renowned jazz artists. His recording made during this time entered the history as jazz classics.
1949
Navarro faced health issues because of tuberculosis and drug addiction. Although the illness challenged him, he never stopped doing what he loved – performing and recording music.
